I've written a test class for a Spring MVC controller by following the "Testing the Spring MVC slice" section described here. The class looks like this:

Give a look at your project and ensure it doesn't have the @ComponentScan annotation. I had problem with it and @WebMvcTest just like you had. I have mine working like this:

The @WebMvcTest#secureproperty is trueby default. If you have spring-security-testas a test dependency, then spring security will take affect during the test (which can be switched off by setting WebMvcTest#secureto false). However, if your controller is making use of Authenticationor its principal, you'll probably have failing tests.
